Full Mouth Disinfection |
The White Dental Spa offers Full Mouth Disinfection (FMD) carried out by our hygienist Sharon Ross, to patients who need extensive gum treatment under local anaesthetic. It has now been established that patients of a non surgical therapy are better off having gum treatment in one visit rather that over a period of several weeks. FMD is beneficial because it removes the bacteria present in the mouth in one treatment, and is sometimes combined with a weeks course of systematic antibiotics, given at the time of FMD. As a patient, we ask that you practice good oral hygiene, be prepared to have a life changing way of looking after your teeth and gums and accept that regular dental examinations and periodontal maintenance will be necessary. This form of treatment is not painful and great care is taken to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the whole procedure. A review appointment will be made to assess plaque controls levels six weeks post treatment. Details 45 minute Initial Assessment

Full Mouth Disinfection Patient Information |
The consequences of allowing your periodontal disease to remain ‘active’ are serious. The disease process spreads to the bone supporting your teeth resulting in this bone being ‘eroded’ to such a degree that your teeth will become loose and may ultimately be lost. The organisms linked to the progression of periodontal disease are extremely difficult to eliminate and can readily and easily re-contaminate sites which were previously clear. Our current level of understanding of this most complex of diseases is that we have to make every attempt to eliminate as many organisms as possible from the whole of the mouth and keep sites uninfected. To this end, a radical treatment called a ‘detox’ has been developed which aims to reduce the organisms by chemical, physical and sometimes antibiotic therapy. In other words, a multidisciplinary approach is undertaken, followed by careful monitoring of the condition, especially during the healing phase. The treatment is lengthy and thorough. An initial visit to see our hygienist will be required in order to give oral hygiene instruction, measure the present depth of your gum ‘pockets’ and instruct you on what you are required to do prior to the ‘detox’ appointments. These will take place when your hygienist is satisfied that you are able to maintain a good level of oral hygiene. Occasionally, situations arise when the proposed treatment plan has to be altered; should this be the case you will be advised of these changes and the costs involved.
